Healthcare and Life Sciences Consulting
Consulting
Semester-long strategy and technical projects for healthcare and life sciences companies, delivered by interdisciplinary student teams.
What We Take On
Each team brings students from business, engineering, computer science and the life sciences. Projects fall into two broad areas.
Strategy Projects
Market sizing, competitive positioning, pricing and go-to-market plans for healthcare and life sciences companies.
Technical Projects
Consulting for medtech and health tech companies on problems that call for a computer science background.
How an Engagement Works
Every engagement runs for one semester, from scoping in week 1 to handoff in week 14.
-
Kickoff and scoping
The team meets the client and agrees on the problem, goals, deliverables and how often to check in. Ends with a signed scope or project charter.
Weeks 1–2
-
Research and discovery
Industry and market research, client data requests, stakeholder or expert interviews, and a first hypothesis.
Weeks 2–5
-
Analysis and development
The main work: strategy teams build frameworks, market sizing and competitive analysis. Technical teams build models, prototypes or analyses.
Weeks 5–9
-
Midpoint review
Preliminary recommendations are shared with the client for feedback, so there is time to adjust.
Weeks 9–10
-
Refinement
The team incorporates feedback, tests the recommendations and builds the final deliverable.
Weeks 10–12
-
Final delivery
A final presentation and written deliverable for the client, plus a handoff of files and next steps.
Weeks 12–14
Team Structure
Each engagement is staffed by a team of five consultants led by a project manager. All teams are overseen by VITAL's Director of Projects.
